Come and explore the future of materials with Biodesign Collective.
Join biodesigners Paula Molina and Millicent Sutton for an immersive workshop exploring the world of biodesign and biomaterials. This session introduces the principles of biomaterial innovation, highlighting how nature-inspired materials can offer sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.
The workshop begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of biodesign, followed by hands-on experimentation at two interactive stations: Bioplastics and Bioyarn. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own biomaterials, gaining insight into alternative fabrication methods and the potential of living systems in design.
Through exploration and experimentation, this session encourages participants to rethink material choices in art and design, proving that biodesign isn’t just innovative — it’s a step toward a more sustainable future.
No prior experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
Biodesign Collective
Biodesign Collective is a group of multidisciplinary practitioners tinkering with living systems while addressing the ecological crises through bio-based solutions, material enhancement, community involvement and advocacy. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the social and environmental realms, fostering lasting change, while embracing awe-inspiring beauty in our processes and outcomes.
Paula Molina, Biodesign Collective
Paula Molina is a biodesigner, researcher, and educator, passionate about exploring the intersection between science and design and how multidisciplinary design can drive sustainable futures. Her work sits at this crossroads, where she experiment with biomaterials, living systems, and alternative fabrication methods to challenge conventional material design approaches. With a background in design thinking methodologies and material design, she believes in using design as a tool for meaningful change.
Millicent Sutton, Biodesign Collective
Millicent Sutton is an award-winning multidisciplinary maker and florist recognised for creativity, ingenuity and thought. She is a MA Biodesign Graduate from Central Saint Martins University, with an undergraduate degree in BA (Hons) Contemporary Design Craft. Milli’s graduate work titled ‘Frankenflowers’ delves into the speculative realm of Biodesign, exploring how the human relationship with flowers today is impacting the flowers of tomorrow. In her work she explores the future morphology of flowers, creating crafted diegetic prototypes.
