Fashion District was thrilled to attend the official launch of the Tailoring Academy earlier this month. Located on the Crusader Estate in the heart of Haringey, the fully equipped 11,500 square foot space will provide the sector with the next generation of tailors, teaching up to Level 7 apprenticeships.
The Tailoring Academy is one of three Fashion District developments supported by the Mayor’s Good Growth Fund, alongside Poplar Works and The Trampery Fish Island Village. Over 140 members of industry attended the launch event, where guests could experience live demonstrations, and heard speeches about the collaborative project from Jenny Holloway, Fashion-Enter, Debbie Jackson, Greater London Authority, & Nick Beighton, ASOS.
Nick Beighton, ASOS.com CEO said: “We are delighted to see the new Tailoring Academy which will act as a hub linking local talent to experts, specialist training, professional development courses, equipment and opportunities. ASOS is very proud to be part of this innovation.”
The Tailoring Academy is a joint collaboration between Fashion-Enter and the Haringey Council. Fashion-Enter is a not-for-profit social enterprise, a manufacturing factory catering clients such as ASOS and Brora. “Tailoring Academy will be the perfect learning environment for specialised fine skills required in pattern making, cutting and tailored stitching” affirmed Jenny Holloway, CEO of Fashion-Enter.
